National Resistance Movement (NRM) flagbearer Godfrey Magezi has been elected Speaker of Kabale Municipal Council after securing 17 votes in a closely contested election held at the Municipal Council Hall.
The election was presided over by Kabale Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha.
Magezi, who also serves as Rutooma Ward Councilor for Northern Division, defeated independent councilor Allan Turinawe of Kirigime Ward, who polled 11 votes.
Eunice Orishaba, the NRM flag bearer representing persons with disabilities in Kabale Municipal Council, was elected unopposed as Deputy Speaker.
Kabale Municipality Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha retained Kedress Mutabazi, the LCIV Councilor for Central Division–Central Ward, as Deputy Mayor.
Presenting Mutabazi to the council, the mayor said he subscribes to the Patriotic League of Uganda.
The mayor also appointed Asiimwe Rachael, the female councilor for Karubanda Ward, as Secretary for Administration, Finance and Planning.
Yusuf Twegumye, councilor for Karubanda Ward, was named Secretary for Works, Production and Technical Services, while Grace Tukamushaba Natukunda, councilor for Mwanjari Ward, was appointed Secretary for Social and Community-Based Services.
The election reflects ongoing political realignments within local government structures as new municipal leadership teams take shape following recent council contests.
